Frequently Asked Questions

Programmable Controller Topic: PLC Software and HMI Software Connection with PLC via USB Port

FAQ No. FAQ00129

Question

Can the computer’s USB port be used to connect the CX-Programmer and NS-Designer to the PLC?

Answer

Use a CS1W-CIF31 USB-Serial Conversion Cable (D-sub).
The Support Software can be connected to a SYSMAC Programmable Controller or NT/NS-series Programmable Terminal.

In Windows-based software, such as the CX-Programmer and NS-Designer, the Windows COM port is used in the software and that COM port does not depend on the actual physical RS-232C or USB port, so it isn’t necessary to identify the port type.

Typical commercially available USB-to-RS-232C adapters may not be capable of handling high-speed FA communications, so use a USB Conversion Cable that is suitable for FA applications.
